HDPE Pipe Fusing

Join HDPE pipe with controlled heat and pressure for water, wastewater, utility, industrial and agricultural systems.

What it does

Continuous, durable polyethylene pipe systems.

HDPE fusion joins compatible polyethylene surfaces into a continuous piping system. Proper preparation, temperature, pressure and cooling time are essential to a reliable joint.

Butt fusion aligns and heats the pipe ends before pressing them together. Electrofusion uses a fitting with built-in heating elements, which is useful for repairs, tie-ins and tight working areas.

Syncore has installed HDPE on long rural water projects, directional crossings and major pipeline work across Southern Alberta.

Good fit for

Where hdpe pipe fusing earns its keep.

  • Butt fusion
  • Electrofusion fittings and repairs
  • Water and wastewater systems
  • Agricultural and rural water pipelines
  • Utility and industrial pipe
  • Fused product pipe for trenchless crossings

Plan the work

Three things that shape the plan.

  1. 01

Provide pipe diameter, dimension ratio, resin specification, joining standard, total footage and required testing information.

  2. 02

The crew needs a clean working area, room to stage fused pipe and a plan for cold, wind, dust or moisture.

  3. 03

Fusion can be coordinated with Syncore's drilling, augering and water-infrastructure work.

HDPE pipe fusing FAQ

Questions to answer before the crew arrives.

These are the questions that help determine whether this is the right method for the job.

01What is the difference between butt fusion and electrofusion?

Butt fusion heats and presses prepared pipe ends together. Electrofusion uses a fitting with embedded heating elements. The right method depends on the pipe, access, specification and type of connection.

02Where is HDPE commonly used?

HDPE is common in water, wastewater, irrigation, mining, utility and industrial systems. Its flexibility and corrosion resistance also make it useful for directional drilling projects.

03Can HDPE be fused in cold weather?

Yes, with proper procedures. Wind, moisture, frost, pipe temperature and cooling time must be controlled according to the joining specification and equipment requirements.

04Can you fuse pipe before a directional bore?

Yes. Long HDPE strings are often fused and staged before being pulled through a completed bore. The staging area, bend radius and pull plan need to be considered early.

05What information is needed for a fusion quote?

Share the pipe diameter, DR, resin or standard, total footage, joint type, site location, schedule and any testing or documentation requirements.
